Wenceslaus Anthony, Executive member of the India New Zealand Business Council heading Government Relations and Chairman - Bank of Baroda (New Zealand) Ltd passed away at Apollo Hospital in Chennai, India on 23 Jul. His passing has shocked the business world in New Zealand, India and Sri Lanka.
Wenceslaus was the Deputy Director and Secretary to the Board of Studies for Loyola Institute of Business Administration in the well-known Jesuit -Loyola College, Chennai, India. He was also the Advisory Board member of New Zealand India Research Institute at Victoria University.
He was the Chairman & Managing Director of WAML GROUP LTD and Chairman & Director of Pact Industries Pty Limited, Australia.
He was a key member of Prime Minister Sir John Key’s state visit to India in 2011 and 2016. He was also a member of the first New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) trade mission to Sri Lanka in 2015.
Wenceslaus was awarded the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2014 in recognition for services for furthering New Zealand-India relations. He won may honours and accolades including more recently the ‘Pro Ecclesia Et Pontifice,’ the Papal Medal from the Pope. He was a member of the Board of Catholic Caring Foundation, New Zealand.
A man of faith who embraced Jesus in an exemplary manner and a man of honor whose many awards and accolades spoke of his dynamism and rare vision. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him as a friend, an acquaintance and business leader. He has earned the respect and admiration of people with his integrity, honesty and commitment.
